Underage Festival '11 - Bollocks to Poverty

A note from Joelle...

Last Friday ( 5th of August), myself and one of my best friends, Hannah travelled down to Victoria Park in Hackney for the Underage Festival. I know the name of the festival sounds a bit dodgy, but it just a big music festival for 14-17 year-olds, honest. Moving quickly on, we were not there as festival-goers,  instead we were going to be volunteers for the charity Action Aid's teen section called 'Bollocks to Poverty'. I think that is a brilliant name if I'm very honest! This is my second year as an Action Aid volunteer and I was looking forward about informing people at the festival about tax loop holes and how some greedy companies are avoiding tax. This makes stakeholders in third world countries even poorer - shocking.
We arrived there at around 9am (quite early for me but it was all in the name of charity!) and met up with some other people who we would be working with to spread the 'Bollocks to Poverty' message. Everyone was really friendly and I knew it would be an amazing day.
Here is a list of my top 10 highlights (in no particular order):

#1 - I had a pretty lengthy conversation with Stefan Abingdon from The Midnight Beast!!! AHHHH!!
#2 -  I had the chance to see Fugative (my future husband) perform. He was brilliant.
#3 - It didn't rain! Bit of a lame one, but if you're British, this is a BIG deal! :)
#4 -We broke last year's record and signed over 800 up to the Bollocks to Poverty campaign and petition!
#5 - I got a great photo of a member of 'Frankie and the Heartstrings' in a cool bowler hat. Nice
#6 - Got an autograph from Ashley Horne from The Midnight Beast and also got given a free calendar
#7 - Also spoke to Dru Wakely from The Midnight Beast and he kissed my piece of paper because he couldn't find a pen to sign it, awwwwwwww.
#8 - Met some awesome people who were helping out and I hope that we all stay in touch
#9 - Got loads of free goodies from Coca-cola, Clare's Accessories and many more
#10 - Saw some amazing fashionistas with their festival fashion. And some even told me where they got their jewellery from, sweet!
