Adventures in Sicily

A note from Joelle...
As I mentioned about a month ago, I went to Sicily on a school trip (oh, the glamorous life of a geography student!). Here are a few photos from my time in Sicily!
We spent the week climbing craters of Mount Etna, pizza making, island hopping on a mini cruise, lazing around on beaches, soaking up the Sicilian history and of course... SHOPPING! I have to admit that most of my money went on food rather than clothes/jewellery though!
*Quick fact: We went up Mt Etna... and then it erupted!!!
Here are a few photos from my time in Sicily!

Question Wednesday: Eyes!

A note from Joelle...
I am very happy that this week's 'Question Wednesday' is about EYES! In my opinion, every one has great eyes!
If you would like to take part in Question Wednesday, please check out Nikki's Blog for all the details! :)
Makeup Ideas / kind of reminds me of a peacock
1. What colour are your eyes & if you could choose what color they were what color would that be?
My eyes are dark brown, but I would not mind a lighter brown or even hazel. With that said, I am blessed with my lovely dark brown shade!
2. Bold eyeliner, Light eyeliner, or no eyeliner?
When I was an early teen, I really couldn't do make up and thought that the more eye dark junk you put on, the better. I would use thick black liquid eyeliner on the eyelids and then weird neon blue/green on the bottom lashes!  Boy was I a mess! I now tend to experiment with eyeliners and have lots of colours.
3. What is your go to eye look?
Lots of good quality mascara, eyelash curler (before applying mascara), faint black eyeliner on eyelids, warm shimmery
4. What brand makes your favourite eyeshadows?
I'm not as into eye shadows as I was a few years ago, so I don't have any modern or even branded ones. I do have a lot of pallets though and will try the Urban Decay range soon.
5. What are your must have eye products?
Elizabeth Arden Night Cream (life saver product!), Rimmel masascara, ELF Eyelash/brow wand ( to get out all the nasty mascara clumps) and Boots eye soothing gel.

Style File #2: Cara Delevingne

A note from Joelle...
If you have not heard of Cara Delevingne by now, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? But I am sure you've probably seen her in the new Burberry 2012 campaign with actor Eddie Redmayne (my future husband!).
She is a British teen model with Storm and has done shows for Burberry, Fendi, Blumarine, Stella McCartney, Chanel and many more. To add, she is only 19 (wow!).
From casual pictures (not from a photoshoot or catwalk) I can see that Cara likes to wear casual rock-band tees, slouchy biker boots and skinny jeans. It's a fabulous look that she really pulls off.

*none of these photos are mine!
She is incredibly versatile and could easily be as big as Chanel Iman or Lily Cole. She is definitely one to watch in the near future!
P.S. I also think that she has amazing eyebrows - like, the best, ever! hehe :)

British Countryside Style: On A Budget

A note from Joelle...
As I live in a rural area of Surrey (with fields, farms, barns, hedgehogs and horses and all that) I have realised that some girls in my area dress in a particular way. I know what you are thinking: British tweed and shiny riding boots, but there is more to it than that- I promise!

Here is my take on this look. I keep it 'prim and proper' with this old-school cropped duffel coat (Peacocks) and deer animal print blouse (Matalan). But, then I make it more modern with my bottom-studded leather tote( boutique from eBay), platform Chelsea ankle boots (boutique from eBay) and plain matte black leggings (Primark).
*Sorry about the camera quality!

I love 'prim and proper look' at the moment even though it's not really a Springtime trend. This style can be worn throughout the year as most of the coats or gilets are waterproof ( ideal for the British countryside anyway).
What is also great about this look is that you don't have to spend loads of money to fit in to this style. It's more about pre-loved (second hand vintage) clothing as well! I am really glad that us Brits have re-discovered vintage clothing and have embraced pre-loved clothing once more! I guess, many people think that wearing second-hand clothing has connotations with poverty and neediness, but there are so many hidden gems and I dare you to go and pick out something in your local pre-loved (charity shop) store.
I always think of it like this: all pieces of pre-loved
clothing have a story to tell. You are continuing that story by purchasing it, customising it, wearing it and giving it a new life/identity!

Here are some gorgeous items that I found on the wonderful Friendly Fashion site! The site is all about giving pre-loved clothing a chance and sellers (like myself) offer bargain vintage and 'only-worn-once' pieced that you probably can't find anywhere else! So have a look and grab some excellent bargains! :)

Miss J's Chocolate Biscuit Fridge Cake

A note from Joelle...
This is one of my favourite British treats and you all should give it a try as it's soooooo simple! You don't even need to bake it! (But you do need a fridge!)
The word on the street is that this is The Duke of Cambridge's (Prince William)  favourite cake recipe and even had the McVitie's company make him and Kate an additional chocolate biscuit wedding cake!!! Their recipe is top secret though! :(
I served mine with fresh strawberries!
* You can also add stuff like marshmallows, raisins and nuts into the mixture if you like!
Ingredients: Packet of digestive biscuits, 3 medium bars of cooking chocolate (I used milk) , 4 tablespoons of butter/margarine, 2 tablespoons of caster sugar, mixing bowl, spoon and lined baking tray
1) Place butter and chocolate in a bowl and place over boiling water.
2) Put biscuits is cling film and bash until it is in smooth crumbs
3) Once butter and chocolate has melted, take off heat and add sugar and crushed biscuits. Stir in gently to coat the biscuit crumbs. (This is where you can add additional  ingredients like fruit and nuts!)

Enjoy! :)
