Burger & Lobster

A note from Joelle...
I think I will let the pictures do most of the talking in this post!
After reading loads and loads of reviews of this restaurant, I decided to give it a go with my sister as a post-theatre treat. We went to the Mayfair branch as it was closer and slowly sauntered down Clarges Street wondering where everyone was! The road was too quiet for 5pm on a Wednesday for our liking. With that said, The Burger and Lobster was buzzing with happy faces, cocktails and people wearing silly bibs.

The low-down: There are 3 things on the menu - burger (a titanic stack of beef patty, salad, cheese and bacon, held together with a brioche bun and a cute burger flag), lobster (1 whole steamed lobster with fries, salad and melted garlic butter) and a lobster bun ( lobster meat mixed with mayo in a brioche sub roll).

The price: £20 for the lot - all 3 choices are the same price which is really good! Drinks are a bit pricey, but hey, this is Mayfair after all. No reservations are needed - just turn up with your friends and have a ball!
We were seated within seconds and were made to feel very welcome by our lovely waitress for the evening. I ordered a (very classy) pint of Japanese beer and my sister went for a rather odd bitter, which she did not like.
We both ordered the lobster (steamed then grilled to perfection), that came with melted garlic butter, fries and a warm salad. The salad was divine - toasted croutons resting on parmesan, caramelised onions, rocket and lettuce.

The only teeny bit of criticism I would say is that the tables are really small, especially the ones facing against the wall. I was forever dropping bits of salad on the floor and nearly elbowed the woman next to me when using my cutlery. But that is the only negative - seriously, even the toilets were nice!

Maxi - Rare Fashion
Bag - ASOS
Bangles - Republic
Necklace - Primark
I cannot recommend this place enough. The food is great, at atmosphere is wonderful and it is great value for your money. If Mayfair is too far away from you, they have opened another branch in Soho due to popular demand.
So grab some girlfriends and head down to the Burger and Lobster for a fantastic foodie experience! There is no need to be shy - bibs and moist towelettes are provided for the messy eaters! Seriously, I saw businessmen in fine suits roll up their sleeves, don their bibs and dig in - it was a wonderful sight.

What I’d Take For A Milan City Break With easyJet Holidays

A note from Joelle... *Competition
This is what I’d take for a Milan city break with easyJet
Sunglasses - £14 In Milan, bigger is better, and this included sunglasses too!
Blue heeled sandals - £40 These are really on trend at the moment and this rich cobalt blue gives this outfit a burst of colour.
Watch - £20 Simple and quirky!
Cage bangle - £10 Quite abstract, yet simple at the same time. This bangle can also be styled above the elbow as well.
Baroque Playsuit - £45 It's hot in Milan, so I would wear a playsuit instead of trousers. The metallic Baroque pattern fits into the Italian history.
Clutch Bag - £26 - Oversized envelope clutch bags are a great look for this season. This is a contemporary twist on a regular clutch bag, which is great for a contemporary place like Milan.
Pearl Collar - £14 - This metal and pearl collar added a touch of femininity and elegance to this outfit
Blazer - £20 - A sharp, simple blazer is great for a short city break, as it is smart and casual at the same time.
Ring - £12 - The simple studded ring goes well with the metallic-themed outfit.

Back To School/Uni Fashion

A note from Joelle...
As you may know, I am stating university in a few weeks and need to get some casual and party outfits ready for the amazing time ahead of me. If you are going into sixth-form for the first time (we don't wear uniform in Years 12 and 13) you might be wondering what is acceptable to wear, as you do not want to overdo it!
During my Sixth Form years, I found stylish and affordable clothes/accessories that looked almost designer and styled them with comfortable shoes and jackets. It was great when people asked my where I got my clothes/accessories from, because it was a huge confidence boost!
I have put together a collage of some high street pieces that would look good in any back to school outfit, and trust me, people will be asking 'Where did you get that?' Enjoy!

Super Simple Tacos

A note from Joelle...
Okay, I did cheat and use the taco mix kit, but man, it was goooooooood. This is great for skint students and/or people who are in a hurry but still want some good grub.
Mexican food is getting more and more popular in the UK. Indian, Italian and Chinese are still the main favourites, but this could all change in a few years!
I LOVE tacos, enchiladas, burritos, churros, nachos,  quesadillas, fajitas, THE WORKS!

You will need:

125g grated cheese
Vegetable oil
Lettuce (or any salad leaves that you like)
Tomato salsa
Taco meal kit (just tomato salsa, taco shells
1 onion
500g mince meat (you can use chicken, beef, lamb or pork) - I used beef.

Method:

It is pretty straightforward really!

Luxury Wishlist

A note from Joelle...
I have been 'ooing' and 'aahing' over the pieces below for a while now. I WILL be the proud owner of these beauties one day!
Click the links here 1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8
1: Gold Feather Bracelet - My Flash TrashSuch a simple design, yet really intricate and classy. I am really into jewellery that has leaves/feathers on them, so this is a must-get item for me!

2: Vanessa Bruno Athe Mini Satchel Bag - Isn't this cute? I need some colour in my accessories and this vibrant satchel offers a wonderful burst on citron to any outfit.

3: Vivienne Westwood Oversized Striped Frame Sunglasses - These are great. I only really wear rounded and oversized glasses because the shape is just so classic and can suit almost all shapes of faces.

4: JS Collections Beaded Bodice Dress - I don't know where I would where this gown, if I bought it. But just imagine it swaying in you wardrobe and looking so elegant!

5: Jo Malone White Jasmine and Mint Perfume - I am serious need of a light, fresh and summery perfume. And Jo Malone offers just that in this fragrance.

6: Lanvin Bandeau BikiniI always call red swimming outfit 'Special K swimsuits' because of the adverts. This year, I promised myself that I will no longer wear boring black one-pieces and instead embrace my curvy sides and wear a bright bikini. I haven't really stayed true to my word, but that's just because I haven't been on holiday!

7: Tom Ford Deep Red LipstickThis is such a luxurious lipstick and just oozes scandal and sophistication. I don't wear lipstick any more, but this will hopefully all change when I get older (and classier!). Every blogger needs some kind of notepad/filofax to jot down ideas/inspirations!

8: Harrods Sketchy London A5 Diary - I also need one for when I start uni in September and for the plays that I am writing. I always go for the cheap supermarket ones that break and come unbound, so this is a great and trustworthy one from Harrods of London.

Life's Lovely Luxuries: Mel Boteri

A note from Joelle...
I am really impressed with Mel Boteri's  handbag range. I have to admit that I had never heard of this designer until a month ago, but I am glad that I know all about her now. If you are a leather lover like me and also like feminine glamour, then this is the designer for you!

About Mel Boteri (aka Melanie Mueller) and her line:
  • Mel set up her line in 2009
  • All of her pieces are hand crafted and totally one-off.
  • The pieces are 100% real leather were handmade in Portugal.
Love it already? Just wait until you see what the pieces actually look like! Here are a few of my favourites from the Bag Servant Site:

Pursebuzz for Mel Boteri Classic Black Elese Satchel

Source

This is a great handbag. The studs are a fashionista's best friend this season and the pink leather studded bow makes it a touch more feminine. It is large enough to fit in all our girlie essentials, oh and work/school files as well! I wouldn't necessarily call this a 'satchel', but it's a fabulous shoulder bag tote made of very fine leather and looks stunning. I WANT IT!

Mel Boteri Everyday Black Boteri Tote

This is for the kind of woman that wants a sturdy and practical bag, but who also wants a bit of fun and a touch of glamour to her tote. Made on black calf-skin leather and a turquoise suede interior, this bag is smooth, sturdy and a must-have for It-Girls trotting around their city!

Winston

Source
This is my favourite piece by far. I like how it's called 'Winston' because it looks quintessentially British - Sturdy, elegant and sophisticated (well, most of us anyway!) Also, brown leather and animal print go so well together in my opinion.
It is called a men's portfolio, but us lasses can easily rock this as a clutch for work/meetings, right?

If you hadn't guessed already, I really like these pieces and they make great investment pieces.
In relation to 'accessorising', it is great to mix high-street bargains and luxury pieces to get an all-round fabulous outfit ,and Mel Boteri offers both sassy and classic styles to suit all kinds of woman.
What do you think? Let me know below!

Sneak Peek At My Week #1

A note from Joelle...
(Late post) This week has been really good. Not only was the weather great in London (and some parts of Scotland), I got to go home for the weekend to see my folks! But before all of that, I still had tonnes of work to do in Scotland and things became a tad bit stressful. A Level exam results are only a few days away and I really don't want to stress myself out about it! I know I will get into a university this year, but I really want it to be my first choice and also my dream course.

I Sing Because I'm Happy, I Sing Because I'm FREE!

A note from Joelle...
College-prep_large

So ladies and gents, after ELEVEN long years of saying that I want to become a geologist when I grow up, this dream is becoming a reality.
I cannot believe I have stuck to my goals for so long and am so very close to achieving this! I have to thank God most of all obviously, because He was really  in control and not me.
I got into my firm choice of uni yesterday after passing my Music, Extended Project (on Gold Mining) Politics and Geography A Levels and could not be happier. I am currently in the adjustment stage and could possibly move to another university, but we'll see later this month.

Even though I took the wrong A Level subjects and completely failed the first year, I managed to shake myself and work really hard to get to where I am now. I did lose friends along the way as I became less sociable, but I wouldn't change a single thing.
I don't have time to celebrate as I need to sort out jobs, accommodation, more exams and stuff, but for now, I'm really really relived and very happy, that my dreams are finally becoming a reality.
Also, it's great that I've been living away from home for the last three months, in a uni-style environment. It has really shaped me and I know I can budget and be really mature (kind of!).

I can't wait to be a fresher and start my course in September! Meeting so many people from different countries and walks of life is going to be wonderful. I think I will need to update you all on my celebrations when I get back to London next week and of course, my new outfits that I will be buying for the new term. I already have 3 haul posts coming up so stay tuned!! :)

Is anyone else going to be a fresher or just going back to university in September? :)

So I leave you with this quote:

"Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish."

Good Blogger Etiquette in 10 Steps

A note from Joelle...
Before we begin, I am writing this post from what I have seen in the bloggersphere over the last two years. I am aware that not all of you will agree with me, but hey, you can't please everybody.
You don't have to abide by these rules or anything, but it would be nice if you read it - you may pick up some good tips! :)
03a40733_underwood5_secr_boss_legs_1920s_large
Source
  1. Source photos or ideas that are not yours - I am the biggest culprit of this as I always forget. But I promise from this day onwards, I will put a little link reading 'source' on every photo that is not mine.
  2. Do not write 'follow me back' on a comment - I think every blogger will agree that this is possibly the most annoying comment to get on a post. A blogger will follow your blog if they like your content and will probably just ignore your comment if you type irrelevant stuff.
  3. Actually read other blogger's blog posts - A great way to gain new followers  and blog views is by interaction and social activeness. Leaving nice comments on other blogs is a great confidence boost to the author and hey, you might even get a reply!
  4. Leave your link on comments - I LOVE it when bloggers leave their links on my post comments a I like to see the unique blogger names. This is different from just writing 'follow me back' because
  5. Take your labels list seriously - This is a great way of finding a good post on a blog. So, make sure to add tags and labels to your posts.
  6. De-clutter your blog - I had to do this recently as I had way too many links/buttons/pictures on my right-hand column. This is distracting to readers and they may not stay on your blog for long if it's not clear and well structured.
  7. Show variety - If you are a single topic blogger (e.g. fashion or beauty), that's OK, however a holiday fashion post or a post on a more personal level will let readers get to know the girl/guy behind the blog!
  8. Be careful what you say - Some people forget that even if you delete something on the internet, it remains on the web for eternity, even if you can no longer see it. This means that any raunchy photos,   abusive comments/opinions and general ill-manners can be found and will come back to bite you in the future! So, don't do anything that you will regret.
  9. Consider removing CAPTCHA from your blog - This is the infamous 'spam' detector and it really does put people off putting comment on blogs if they have this. It just takes extra effort to fill out the numbers and letters and I just lose interest altogether. To get ride of it: Settings>Posts and Comments>Show Word Verification>Click 'no'>Save.
  10. DO. NOT. TROLL. - If you do not like a blogger and/or their content KEEP YOUR OPINIONS TO YOURSELF! Trolling is not only wrong, but it also counts as cyber-bullying (even if you do it once!) and you could get caught and charged. You are not invisible on the internet as your IP address can be found by everyone, including the authorities. Remember, freedom of speech involves speaking not typing on a keyboard. Just be considerate.

My Jewellery Storage (On A Budget!)

A note from Joelle...
I had to find a new (temporary) way of storing my necklaces and sunnies now that I live away from home and can't take all my trinket boxes with me. I was browsing on Pinterest for inspiration and came across a lovely picture of some necklaces stored on a pin-board, held up by vintage doorknobs.
I really liked this idea, but had to use teeny message-board pins instead of lovely vintage doorknobs (thus is student life!) The pins are all colour-coded red, white and blue for the Union Jack!!!
It's such a shame that I didn't bring a lot of jewellery up here, but I definitely brought the most eclectic pieces with me. This storage isn't bad for a fashionista on a bugest, eh? :)
My two pairs of sunglasses now simply hang from the two longest necklace chains - pretty easy storage technique!
Here are some pictures! What do you think?

Marilyn.

A note from Joelle...
Today marks the 50th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe's death - she was only 36 years-old. She is still a huge icon from the Golden Age of Hollywood. But most of all, she will be remembered for her effortless style, magnificent beauty and mysterious persona.
I only started watching Marilyn films last year and 'The Prince And The Showgirl' is my favourite by far. This film was also brought back to light due to the success of the 2011 film 'My Week With Marilyn'. It became clear that she really struggled personally during the filming of this picture. Despite this, she remained as graceful as ever and just wanted to entertain people with her amazing talent in a time of social and political hardships.

My Topshop Wishlist

A note from Joelle...
Click on the numbers below to take you to each item's link!
1: Ditsy floral shorts are just so summery and fresh this season. Love it!
2:For some reason I have been wearing quite a lot of black this season. The light hem style makes this dress less simple and  more floaty.
3: It's a bit  late in the season for prom dresses, but I cut the style of this one. Such a simple cut , yet the sequins make it stand out.
4: I am a huge fan of playsuits. This on is only £10 and I love the motel print.
5: From THIS post, it is clear that I LOVE cobalt blue. It is my favourite colour and it stands out so well.
6: I have finally jumped on the studded shoe bandwagon. I took my time, but I'm there! These nude pumps are lovely and adds that tiny bit of feminine sparkle to an outfit.
7: How cute are these studs? I saw them and instantly thought 'awwwwww'!
8: I current do not own a bralet, but this one looks wonderful. I would style it with disco pants or a black maxi skirt, with long chained necklace.
9: I need to branch out and buy some lighter coloured polishes such as this one. I have seen that you only need about two coats of this particular polish, which is really good; seeing as it's a really light blue.

Baroque 'n' Roll

A note from Joelle...
Mine are from this ebay store. ONLY £6.99!!

Hi everyone!
I have been raving about a certain pair of sunglasses for a few weeks (as seen on twitter) now and I am proud to say that I NOW HAVE A PAIR!!!
These sunglasses are unique because of their huge circular oversized (very Jackie O-esque!) frame and also the minimalistic curved arms of the sunglasses! How amazing do they look? I have never seen anything like this and now they are all over the glossy magazines.
These are 'Baroque' sunglasses and were first seen on the Prada catwalk this year. I also saw a pair in THIS Andrea's Choice video, a started searching for my own pair soon after - a bargain-priced pair of course!
The Prada version seems to be a big hit with the celebrities, but the Prada-inspired ones are still brilliant. The Para frames are priced at around £210 and can be found HERE.

They definitely add that touch of retro-class to an outfit, and seem to fit all head shapes!
What do you think of these sunglasses?
