David Koma

A note from Joelle...
It's London Fashion Week next month (hooray!) and I am getting really excited. It was announced (24/01/13) that three womenswear designers (Holly Fulton, David Koma and Michael Van Der Ham) will receive Fashion Forward support from the British Fashion Council. This is a HUGE deal, and will no doubt see all of their talents bring them lots of success. It is great for emerging talents and has helped designers such as Erdem and Henry Holland.
The man behind the collection: David Koma was born in Georgia and graduated at Central St Martins in London. He is fascinated by the feminine form and this is evident as his designs are so cleverly sculptured with sleek lines and bold cut-outs.
Have a look below at my favourite pieces from the David Koma SS'12 collection. Having a white base in a Spring/Summer collection is not surprising, but  a black colour base is! Very daring for Spring/Summer, but that is what fashion is all about - stepping out of the comfort zone and redefining perceptions.

Highland Territory

A note from Joelle...
I have  never really followed fashion trends as much as I have been doing these past couple of months. I see tots of bloggers say they 'never follow trends', but I really don't mind them as it is all about your personal styling choices at the end of the day and how you can take modal pieces and incorporate them into your look.
The high-street shops are usually in sync with the magazines until the fashion mish-mash catastrophe that is the Sale season in December/January!
I recently wrote about Highland fashion in the November issue of TruffleDust Magazine (a free online mag for bloggers!) You can get tartan scarves, coats, shoes, bags and dresses at the moment and it is a trend that I think will continue into the February!
As you probably know, I am living in Scotland, so in my ignorance I expected to see people rocking the tartan print all the time... NO! There are cute kilt shops though, that I saunter past at the weekends. The patterns and colours you can get are amazing! It reminds me of the kilt I wore back in secondary school.
Any way, I bought this Primark shirt for £9 and am completely in love with it!
How would I style it? With spikes and leather of course! Leather leggings are also from Primark, black leather riding boots from New Look and spike necklace is from Kukee.

How would you style this top? :)

A note from Joelle...
It is the end of the party season and we are all back to school/university/work. I still think there is space in every girl's wardrobe for that killer maxi dress, sparkly heel and bejewelled clutch though! Check out my picks below!

The 'Clueless' Comeback

A note from Joelle...
When I was younger I was obsessed with this TV show and the film. I loved Cher, Dee, Amber and Tai's fashion as it was always bright and loud!
Lots of fashion mags and online articles suggest that the crazy, eccentric style of 'Clueless' era is making a comeback and the funny thing is, I knew this was coming!
Fashion always repeats itself, but with more modern twists and now it is time for the age of 'Clueless' to do just that!
Think lots of plaid, block colours, checks, buttons and high-knee socks and you are heading in the right direction with this trend.

So here you have the loud prints, block colours and sleek cuts with a mixture of high street and designer pieces!

PS: I still know the 'Clueless' theme tune off by heart! Just to refresh your memories, I put it below! ;)

Bowing Out Of Blogging... For A while

A note from Joelle...

♫ ♪ Single Blank Canvas - Jodie Marie

                             ♫ ♪ Be Back Soon - Oliver!
Today I decided that I simply cannot do this any more. I need to take a break from being 'FebruaryGirl' and focus more on being Joelle. This could be for a week or even a few months, I honestly don't know.
It's not that I don't know what to write about, I have just under 200 draft posts ready to be posted, but I need a break from it all and get some aspects of my life in order.

I hope you understand and will all be here when I get back. I will be continuing with my Blog Love of The Week because there are still lots of blog gems out there that I feel you guys show know about.

Blogging has honestly been one of the best things I have ever done and I love interacting with you all and writing about my passions. I feel that I have neglected other stuff in the process though and need to take my own advice. I do not accept defeat though - no way!

I want to apologies to any PR/press people that are involved with FebruaryGirl at the moment. I know this is quite unprofessional of me to just stop, but I need to take a back seat from my site for a while.
I do have about three scheduled posts that have the automatic dates on them, so they will be up next week. No more after that though. I hope you all understand!

If you need me, I may still be tweeting at @joelle_o and you can always email me at!

Thanks for everything! :)

Vintage Party With Atrixo and Vintage Patisserie

A note from Joelle...
I was really happy to be invited to a beauty event in London in Thursday night. Handpicked Media teamed up with Atrixo and Vintage Patisserie to offer a night of knitting, cakes, makeovers and more cake!
Typically, I arrived one and a half hours late due to a delayed train, rush hour and getting lost. However, it was the really classy end of London, so I got some good pictures of expensive cars and shops.
When I finally got in, I was warmly greeted by Jenny, who showed me the new Atrixo hand cream products and offered me refreshments. I had to admit that I had never heard of Atrixo, but Jenny explained that the company has been around for 55 years!
I did miss out on the knitting workshop, but I happily watched the other bloggers finish theirs off, while I had my make-up done. I went for the big MAC Ruby Woo lips and eyeliner flick!
I had a little sample of each hand cream and the Enriched Moisturising Cream (with Camomile) is my favourite. I am a total moisturiser-junkie so this was perfect for me!
I got to chat to some lovely bloggers who I have met (virtually) on the F.B.L facebook and that was awesome!
The only non-grainy picture I took that night! I scoffed down about four of those macaroon passion-fruit mousses!
Myself with the Vintage Patisserie ladies

I was lucky to take home a goodie bag filled with lots of Atrixo samples and a cake in the shape of the hand cream pot. This blew my mind and must have taken so much time to make.
Just went for it and took a huge bite - oh yes, I am so classy.

Overall, I have found my new staple hand creams and don't think I'll be going elsewhere for a long time!
Many thanks to the Vintage Patisserie gals, Jenny and HandPicked Media!
What I wore:
Dress/Top thing - H&M
Leather leggings - Primark
Boots - New Look
Necklace - Xmas Present

What's In My Ebay Basket?

A note from Joelle...

♫ ♪  eBay Parody Song - Weird Al Yankovic

1.    2.    3.    4.    5.
eBay is rapidly becoming my go-to place for my handbags and cute accessories that I cannot find this side of the Atlantic. There are wonderful boutiques that are keen to break into the European market, and eBay can do wonders for companies like these.
Here are the items that are currently in my basket. Lot's of leather!

One Man, Two Guv'nors

A note from Joelle...
♫♪ Love is Easy (McFly Cover) - Tom Law ♫♪

Stepping into the heart of British theatre in Piccadilly Circus is such a great feeling! It's not as hectic as Times Square, of course, but the lights, tourists and keen theatre nerds cramming into the foyers of historic theatres make this place really special.
Back in the Summer after an intense 3 months of study in North Scotland, I thought I'd treat myself and my sister to a show. I didn't want to see a musical, as I always see musicals and not enough plays! We went to the Royal Haymarket, a grand old theatre where I saw Sweet Charity last year.
Floral Top - Primark
Collar Necklace - Primark
Maxi Skirt - Rare
Bag - ASOS
(*)Union Jack Scarf tied to bag - NEXT

The Plot: I can't say too much, because it's a very cool show where every performance is different. The audience are involved a great deal this is what makes it a very special play.
The story revolves around a man called Francis Henshall in 1940s Brighton. He lands two jobs as a go-fer for two different men, one of which is a local gangster and the other a  posh criminal. Henshall's main aims are to stop his bosses from finding out that he works for another man, take his girlfriend on holiday and EAT! Yeah, this is one for the foodies too!

The show was hilarious. I did not know much about it before I took a trip up to London, but I knew that James Corden had won the hearts of the harshest Broadway critics, therefore the the West End production should be good. My sister and I took full advantage of the 'Ticket For a Tenner' deal on  and were so excited to be there. Our seats were great too - in the balcony but in full view of the stage.

It wasn't just normal British slap-stick comedy, but the well-written script and musical interludes injected so much life into the play.
There were two things I loved the most about 'One Man, Two Guv'nors: 1) The east end/Cockney, and 'Sloaney' accents were hilarious and actually really hard for actors to pull off well. 2) The play had it's own live BAND called 'The Craze' (including a washboards, spoons, basses and great voices, of course) that played when we took our seats in the theatre before the play, and then throughout the show.

I really don't want to tell you too much of the plot because some of it does involve audience participation, which you just have to be there to appreciate fully. *If you have seen it, I want to know what you thought about the bit just before the interval, you'll know what I mean!

One Man, Two Guv'nors is still showing at the Royal Haymarket so don't miss out on family fun and great belly laughs. do some amazing hotel/dinner package deals for the play, so it will be a great day out if you can go. Tickets now start from £12 and you can find all the info HERE!

Just So We're Clear...

A note from Joelle...
That's right ladies and gents, a new fashion craze is sweeping the nation once again.... It's all things clear! Clutch bags, jewellery and even shoe belts are being worn everywhere this season.
If you don't mind baring all and letting the world see the contents of your bag, then this is a great (and brave) choice that will definitely make you stand out.
Fashionistas such as Emma Stone and Olivia Palermo have been seen out and about with the Charlotte Olympia Pandora Perspex clutch bag since Autumn. It's so dainty yet looks great with anything because it will not clash.
Personally, I really like this trend and think that one little clear item with an outfit would look awesome. I have just ordered some perspex jewellery and cannot wait to see how they look :).
What do you think of this trend - YAY or NAY? Let me know below!

Gangster Squad Glamour

A note from Joelle...
Gangster Squad is a new film exploding onto our screens next week. It's based on a true story about gangsters and their rivals in  1940's LA.
It stars Ryan Gosling (*swoon), Sean Penn and Emma Stone.
Check out the amazing trailer HERE. I know there's loads of killings and shootings in it, but I do love a good LA Noire film with lots of action!
Now, onto the fashion! Emma Stone looked great in that red gown and glitzy jewels so I have created the look for less. You are welcome ;)!

Dresses: All from Boohoo - 1, 2, 3, 4
Lipstick: Rimmel
Diamanté clip: Accessorize
Earrings: Accessorize
The film is released in the UK on Jan 10/11th 2013! They are still deciding (because it clashes with Les Mis, I think)!

Mulberry Spring Summer 2013

A note from Joelle...
It's nautical-pastel galore! Mulberry have released pictures of the SS '13 campaign and Canadian model  Meghan Collison has a starring role.
When I saw it for the first time this morning, I knew that only one man could have shot dreamy these pictures...Tim Walker. I am glad to say that I was right!
As you can see from the college, it's not just pastels, cool mint and dainty prints, but tan leather as well! It is clear that the bags are centre stage of the new campaign, as the clothes just help to match. I must add, however, the strapped sandals look amazing.
The Bayswater and Willow totes feature in this campaign, and you can see them above.
What do you think of the new campaign?

Paper Crown: Revisited

A note from Joelle...
Back in 2011, I posted about Lauren Conrad's first ever Paper Crown collection. I was completely in awe of it and liked every piece - which is very unusual for me! I raved about the 'colourful', 'creative' and 'flawless prints', but in the back of my mind, I though that it would be hard for her to create an even better collection in a few year's time. I was wrong, very wrong!

I stumbled upon the Paper Crown website again and found the Spring '12 collection. I am aware that this is a year behind, but the clothes could easily be carried into 2013. The colours are simple and the prints are elegant and dainty, just like Spring.
I was also interested that she chose wintry colours such as silver/grey, navy blue and black in this collection. With that said, it does even out the mood of Spring though, as it's not always blossomy and full of pastels in this season (especially if you live in the UK!).
Have a look at my collage below and see your yourself! I am also a fan of the model's high ballerina bun - a huge look in 2012, which will no doubt carry on into 2013.
All photos are from the Paper Crown site - I made the collage.
I am eagerly awaiting the 2013 pieces and I hope they can live up to the expectation. What do you think of this collection?

Hello 2013!

A note from Joelle...
I think we all need a pat on the back from surviving the end of the world this December. We have finally made it into 2013 and I know that it will be the best year yet!
As for my blog, well it will hit the ripe old age of TWO! It feels great that I have kept at it for as long as I have. I've met some great bloggers along the way and I can't wait to meet more in the New Year.
As for blogging resolutions... I have LOADS:

 - Make more use of other platforms (e.g. Pinterest, Hellocotton and BlogLovin')
 - Create a monthly editorial calendar to organise posts
 - Attend more meet-ups and blogger events
 - Hand out my new business cards!
- Start to wear makeup: I know, an odd resolution, but I feel it's time that I spruced my boring look up a bit and ditch the lip balm/mascara only look
 - LEARN HTML CODING! This is getting beyond ridiculous now. I struggle so much, but this year, I say 'No more!'
 - Create better quality photos
 - Have a play with GIFs and moving pictures
 - Write more beauty reviews
 - De-clutter my blog! This means making it easier to navigate, better colours
 - Host a blog sale! I have so many jewellery and beauty products that I haven't even opened. I know there will be lots of people who would like them, but I never seem to be able to let go.
 - Write more personal style posts!!
 - Reach 1000 followers on the blog and twitter - that would be insaaaaaane!
                                           ... and many more!
For normal resolution, I am still yet to figure them out! What are yours? I need help writing mine!
HAPPY NEW YEAR and all the best for 2013!!
