My City In Pictures

A note from Joelle...

♫ ♪ 'When You're Losing Sleep In Aberdeen' JAMES ARTHUR ♫ ♪

I came up with this idea whilst reading Katie Oldham's new blog post about being a tourist in your own city. It got me thinking about how we hurry past amazing bits of architecture, parks and people without even realising the sheer beauty of our surroundings!
So I want to start this tag: take pictures of different places around your city and describe them! Easy peesy, right? I'm so fascinated about different cities (must be my Geography nerdiness!).
I want to take you on a journey through the  streets, lanes and pathways of Aberdeen City: the silver city by the sea...

'In the rain, the pavements shine like silver...'
It's no secret that it rains a lot in Aberdeen! We're in the North of Scotland after all!
Old and new landscapes side-by-side in the main part of the city
It's easy to be blown away (literally) by the stunning granite architecture
Not  forgetting to mention, we have these wonderful gentlemen watching over us! Robert Burns and William Wallace
This derelict tower is being knocked down and turned into office space
It's nice to see a bit of greenery in the usually grey/silver city!
This is the cultural side of Aberdeen City, with the large theatre, Central library and Robert Gordon Uni
Tucked in the corner of the city is this stunning war memorial, honouring the fallen soldiers from WWI and WWII
It's basically Scottish Hogwarts...
More ancient cobbles!

The tomb of Bishop Elphinstone outside the Chapel
These cobbled streets are not only soaked with rain most of the time, but also the amazing history of Aberdeen University (which was founded in the 1400s!!)
Old Aberdeen High Street leading up to the University. It's really rare to see it student-less
I hope you enjoyed this post and my images of Aberdeen. It's crazy to think all this is right next to the coast! (I couldn't get down to the beach as it was so cold!)
I'd love to see some snaps from your city/town!
