Down By The Riverside

A note from Joelle...

♫ ♪ 'Ghost' - Ella Henderson ♫ ♪

Dress - Forever 21: I still loooooove cobalt blue and try to sneak the bold colour into all my summer outfits! This dress was about £12 and just a really comfy maxi!

Even though I'm a Surrey lass, I seem to always abandon my local green county for the hussle 'n' bussle of London.
London is one of the most exciting places on the planet and that is why I am there practically all the time. But it is time for me to start appreciating the things closer to home.

Today, I spent the day sipping champagne with a good friend and enjoying the local scenery for a bit!
As I have been away for so long in Scotland, I definitely forget how blessed I am to live in such a beautifully, luscious area.
I won't be taking it for granted again!

Champagne Tea At Bill's, Epsom

A note from Joelle...

♫ ♪'Show Me Heaven' - Maria Mckee ♫ ♪

If there's one thing us Brits get right, it's Afternoon Tea.
I know I am a student and should be saving the pennies, but sometimes you just need to inject a little bit of luxury back into your life, right? So that's what I did at Bill's Epsom.
Hannah and I went for the Champagne tea, but you can opt of normal tea if you prefer.
A selection of hot/cold, sweet/savoury treats came out served on a three storey high tea platter.
The only slight issue was the size of the tea platter. It's quite tall on the table so we couldn't really see each other when we were talking.
I got a bit too excited for the cakes!
I definitely see myself becoming a regular at Bill's. The tea was fab and the staff look like they were picked straight out of a modelling catalogue (sorry, I had to mention that!)
Have you ever had afternoon tea?

ASOS In Aberdeen

Okay, my obsession with ASOS is getting out of control. I would say that 60% of my wardrobe is from that site alone!
I bought this shirt/dress and ballerina pumps last week. Both pieces aren't my normal style, but I just decided to try them out.
It's a good thing I did because I am now a big fan of Paisley print!
Dede wears a floral lace dress from Forever 21 and a chunky knitted cardigan from Apricot

Yesterday, I flew to Aberdeen and back to sort out my flat for next year and collect some mail.
After nearly missing my flight (BMT...), breaking a nail and almost passing out from lack of food, I took refuge in a cafe to sort myself out.
Aberdeen is my home away from home, and I have really missed it the past few months!
However, the city centre was practically deserted due to many travelling to the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony and, of course, the summer holidays for the uni students.
After running around the city like a lunatic, I met up with my friend Dede. We had a huge catch up over drinks, Nando's, cocktails and more drinks back at her flat, which was so nice and relaxed.

It was a short and sweet trip and I landed back at home late last night.

If Justin Bieber Quotes Were Inspirational Posters

A note from Joelle...
Inspiration posters are all the rage on places like twitter and instagram at the moment. Some are so powerful, others not so much!
I've decided to make my own with the help of my pal, Justin Bieber.
I hope you are as inspired by his sensational quotes as I am...
Good day to you.

I don't know about you, but it bloody boiling these days! But after living in Northern Scotland for half a year, I'll take any weather that's above 10 degrees graciously!
Sorry for not doing many personal style posts these days. I'm actually undergoing quite an intense fitness regime, so am mainly in baggy sweatpants and sports bras all day!
Not to worry though, I'm not doing anything too drastic, just making an important lifestyle change (I miss my Earl Grey and chocolate!!)
Anyway, these pics were taken on Chelsea Bridge in London, overlooking the Thames. I went a bit ASOS crazy with my outfit, but their clothes give me so much life at the moment.
I've had the dress since about march and love the subtle colour but vibrant print. It's a slip-on cami, so very light and breezy for this insane weather.
I actually got the pumps in the post this afternoon and put them on straight away. I looooooove the front strap detail!
You can't really see, but I'm also wearing an ASOS gold bangle... I know, I know.
How is your summer going? Are you surviving in this heat?

#ThePowerofSummer: Pop Up At Battersea Power Station

A note from Joelle...
I was invited down to the iconic Battersea Power station for the launch of the Indytute pop-up park! To say 'it was unreal' would be a huge understatement!
If you don't know what a pop-up is, it's hipster speak for a business/event that literally pops up out of nowhere and occupies a space for a limited time only.
When we arrived, my sister and I got some delicious frozen cocktails and sat down to soak up the atmosphere.
 This was our backdrop!
We then hopped over to the Everyman Cinema to watch 'Reservoir Dogs' - a classic gory crime film directed by Quentin Tarantino.
The sun set over the open air silent cinema, which added to the coolness of the event!
Yesssssssssss!
We had worked up quite an appetite after the film, so headed to the Street Feast London Collective area to see what was on offer.

 Yes, yes they are........
My sister went for the 'Reservoir Dog' with pineapple slaw
I went for the chilli cheese dog...
"There's no way I can fit this all in my mouth" that's what she said! ;)
To wash down those posh dogs, it was time for another cocktail
We both went for a Spring Punch, a fruity vodka and prosecco-based cocktail
 It was heaven!
Okay, one last look!
Shredded beef, red cabbage and truffle mayo fries inside the burger? HELL YEAH! No wonder the queue for le bun was so large!
My sister couldn't wait for me to get a perfect burger shot and just dug in!
We also tried some fresh, fluffy donut bites with salted caramel sauce and marshmallows!
This was our view on the bus from Chelsea to Victoria. I looooove London on night's like this!
I just had to sneak in a pic of my new ASOS ballet pumps! I got them yesterday morning and just ripped off the packaging and wore them straight to this event!
I had  lots of lovely compliments :)

Over the rest of the summer, there are lots of food markets, cinema and workshop experiences at this venue and you can find out more HERE.
If you are in London from 10th July to 31st August, DO NOT MISS THIS! Make a day of it will some pals, or head to a quirky workshop after work. Anything goes, as long as you experience #ThePowerofSummer
