EVENT: Orangina Societé Pétanque Club, Stratford

A note from Joelle...

♫♪'Never Forget You' - The Noisettes ♫♪

Socialising in London is no longer about standing around a sticky bar, making small-talk for three hours and wishing you were at home with Netflix anymore!
It's now about having a more active experience!
First, I introduced you to Musical Bingo (where I got exceedingly drunk...), and then it was the mini golf bar called Swingers (Where the cocktail glasses were longer than the golf clubs!).

This time, Orangina has teamed up with the Institute of Competitive Socialising, who created Swingers and this time, they have brought a cool French game to the London socialising experience.
Hannah and I were invited to the launch party to find out what is was all about.
Lucy Watson and her boyfriend, James from Made In Chelsea were both in attendance as well as Natalie who plays Missandei on Game Of Thrones, blogger, Lily Melrose and chef/youtuber, French Guy Cooking!

When we weren't trash-talking each other on the petanque terrain, we sipped on Orangina infused cocktails and did a bit of celeb spotting.

My eyes-on-the-prize face! (There was no prize...)
Ever since those GCSE Food Tech classes, Hannah and I have been suckers for good burgers and street food. So tonight, we were in luck as Chef Richard Sandiford, from Flamin’ Liberty and the Hawksmoor served us up a street food menu inspired by the high-energy meals created for athletes. It was a great French/British fusion.

Groups of two, four or six can also reserve a ‘terrain’ for a 30 minute pétanque session. Trust me, it's gets competitive!
(I won overall!)

Oh, and did I mention there's a cute rooftop cinema too? This has quirky date material written all over it!
You've got to be quick! The Pétanque Club opens tonight (27th August) until the 2nd September.

A note from Joelle...

♫♪'No Matter What' - Boyzone ♫♪

"No matter what they tell you.
No matter what they do.
No matter what they teach you.
What you believe is true..."
Let me take you back to 1998.
My mum had recorded Andrew Lloyd Webber's 50th Birthday concert and I watched it religiously.
I loved Boyzone at the time and their performance of 'No Matter What' from the musical: Whistle Down The Wind really resonated with me.
It wasn't only Stephen Gately's angelic voice, but Time Rice's incredible lyrics.
Even at the tender age of 4, I knew the lyrics were going to stick in my mind for a while.

Fast-forward to almost 20 years later...
I forgot.
I forgot something I never thought I would forget.
It wasn't the lyrics, a person, an object or a place.
It was a feeling.
The feeling of not caring what anyone else thought and just goofing around.
The feeling of going barefoot in a forest and feeling the crunchy leaves under my feet.
Feeling the smooth bark of a fallen oak tree as I danced upon it - as if trying to revive it through dodgy pirouettes.
How is it possible to forget something that once came so naturally to me?
As kids, we had no limits.
If there was a tree near us, we would challenge ourselves (or our braver mates) to climb it.
And if we fell over, we'd cry, throw a stop and try again!
Wasn't life so much easier back then?
The only people watching us were our parents. But then again, watching over us was not the same as looking down on us.
They were looking out for us, ready to idiomatically wrap us in cotton wool when things went wrong.
We were still ourselves, not swayed by what others were doing and/or saying.
We were weird and just didn't care!

My definition of an "Earthling" is someone who enjoys being their silly self even though people are watching. They see people watching and do it anyway.
They hear the laughs and see the side-eyes, but do it anyway.
They are too happy being their awesome selves to care!
Earthlings see the world with their eyes first and camera lense second.
They don't need to upload of themselves daily to prove to people they used to know that they're still alive.
It might sound like I'm stating the obvious, but these qualities are rather rare these days.
But they are making a comeback in a big way.

It's time to go back to that.
It's time to look up from that phone, put it down for a bit and fully appreciate our surroundings before and after Snapchatting the shit out of it.
Yes, we may dislike our lives and the way it's turned out, but sometimes stopping and looking at your surroundings puts things into perspective.
When I looked up, I saw this...
All that beautiful blue, white and green towering over me.
All that nature being there had nothing to do with me, but my life has everything to do with it!

I've stopped looking at things through a lense before looking at them with my own, fully-working, brown eyes.
My blog posts have become less frequent, and I'm not sorry about that.

I've taken time to reconnect with friends I almost drifted away from and it's been awesome.

In a way, my absence has generated this new freedom that everyone should experience.
I've learned to appreciate offline things more and have realised that there's nothing wrong with being a goofy Earthling!

Afternoon Tea At Ladurée

A note from Joelle...

♫♪'Waterloo Sunset' - The Kinks ♫♪

Tottering around the cobbled streets of Covent Garden is one thing everyone should experience, but having a special Champagne and macaron afternoon tea at Laduree is really the icing on the cake pastry to a great day out in London.
We hopped on a bus from Waterloo Station to Covent Garden - it's a lovely scenic journey across the bridge, and the tube is unbearable at this time of the year!
Afternoon Tea At Laduree
My sisters and I have a thing for macarons - always have and always will! Every time we are in Covent Garden, the world famous Ladurée is where we sprint to first.
Afternoon Tea At Laduree
This was our first experience of the luxury Champagne Macaron Afternoon Tea experience though, and it did not disappoint!
We sat on the Laduree rooftop, overlooking the market and lively street performers.
Afternoon Tea At Laduree
My sister and I were treated to:
Personally selected macarons - we went for Pistachio, vanilla, raspberry, salted caramel and  Earl Grey
Passionfruit tarts, fraisier, mango and jasmine cream cake
Smoked salmon finger sandwiches
Fromage finger sandwiches
Ladurée pastry selection
A few (too many) glasses of pink Champagne
A pot of tea each

 Smiles all round!
Afternoon Tea At Laduree
The sugar rush was too real, especially as we were allowed to take home a box of macarons in a lovely pastel box! It really is like sweet heaven at Ladurée, so if you're in London, make sure to stop by.
Afternoon tea is a fab European tradition that has now come back in fashion and as a cake-lover, I welcome it with open arms!

We couldn't stay for too long as we had to dash off to the other side of town to see a the new Kinks musical, but more about that later!
Many thanks to Angie Silver and Truly Concierge for hooking me up!

Are you a fan of afternoon tea?

10 Important Things To Start Doing For A Better Health

A note from Joelle...

♫♪'I Got Life' - HAIR Cast ♫♪

10 Important Things To Start Doing For A Better Health
Sorry for the generic "this-is-what-you-could-look-like-if-you-use-these-tips" picture, but this was the only one I could find!
1. Interdental sticks - flossing isn't enough these days and it only really takes out small amounts of plaque/other crap! These sticks have wire bristles that remove everything when you move them back-and-forth between your teeth. I won't' lie, it's painful at the beginning, but over time, it's a piece of cake and your dental hygiene will be on point.
2. Back/Body brush -  We all need one of these - FACT. The amount of dirt that accumulates on our backs is unbelievable and using a small sponge that can't reach everywhere isn't helpful. Getting a back brush with a long handle does the trick every time.
Good Health Tips
3. Tongue scraper - everyone has the same reaction to this little device: "ewwww". But you'd be surprised how important it is. Most of our bad breath comes from the gunk on our tongue, so if we remove it, we have nothing to worry about! No joke, you won't believe how much gunk you can scrape off after you've brushed your teeth, flossed and mouth-washed.
I really recommend you buy one from your dentist/hygienist or buy them in bulk from Amazon.
4. Stock up on toothbrushes/brush heads - It's so easy to forget to change your toothbrush head every few months. If you stock up in advance, there will be no problem when it comes to throwing away your electric brush head, three months down the line! You can get cheap heads in bulk on eBay or Amazon.
5. Use moist wipes/wet toilet paper that you can buy in drugstores. It's way more hygienic than standard loo roll, as you're not spreading nasty bacteria around your body.
6. Chew gum with Xylitol -  this helps to prevent cavities, is safe for diabetics, is low in calories and can even help reduced bacterial blockage in the nose and ears, when chewed!
Good Health Tips
7. Olive Oil - It's the ancient beauty ingredient that actually works! Whether it's on your nails (heated to room temp. and then massaged in), hair (with 1 egg yolk for glossy locks) or your whole body (mix with brown sugar, massage in and then wash off), it's low cost and works every time!
You can also kiss goodbye to a flaky scalp too, as a special olive oil treatment can tend to your scalp too.
Good Health Tips
8. Make your own salad dressing - This post is getting random, right? But I've learnt that you can eat as much salad as you like, but if you drown it in creamy/sweet dressing, the nutritional value of the meal plummets.
Delicious dressing in seconds: 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, tsp whole-grain mustard, tbsp vinegar, juice of half a lemon and a tsp honey. I swear by my little recipe!
Good Health Tips
9. Buy proper products for your vag - Yep, I went there - your V-A-G-I-N-A. So many girls and women use shower gel and soap to clean their vaginas and that's not good at all. Continuous use of regular shower gels could lead to your vag being stripped of it's natural defence s, which could lead to bad odors and bacterial infections.
That area needs it's own kind of 'soap' to keep the pH levels in check.
Femfresh and Vagisil offer the real soap you need to take care of down there!
Good Health Tips
10. Waterrrrrrrrr - Did you really think I'd not mention this? I only learned last year that yellow urine = dehydrated. Only when it's clear is when you know that you've had enough water.
Good Health Tips
Most of this stuff may seem super obvious, but I hope you found some news ways to look and feel better! Here's to a better heath!

Isle Of Skye Candle Company

A note from Joelle...

♫♪'Truly, Madly, Deeply' - savage garden ♫♪

This summer, I spent a few months living and working on the Isle of Skye.
I knew it was famous for it's stunning geology and coasts, but I had no idea Skye scented candles were really popular!
So on our last day on the island, Eimhear and I popped into the shop in Broadford to see what all the fuss was about.
Isle Of Skye Candle Company
So we went into simply browse and look around............... After 20 minutes, I had spent a rather large sum of money on candles for friend's birthdays and some for my uni room next year. I'm such a basic girl! #SorryNotSorry
Isle Of Skye Candle Company
There were so many to choose from and I loved the story behind each unique scent.

100% renewable (and sustainable) soy wax and the finest oils are used to make these natural candles.

Not only are the candles handmade, when you burn them, no wax is left if the jar. This means that you can bring them back to be refilled!

I wasn't sure vanilla and fig would go well, but I was wrong... so, so wrong! This smells heavenly (so I bought three...)

I'm preparing for the colder months already with this winter candle.

Superdry + #ScoutedByElite Party

A note from Joelle...

♫♪ 'The Show' - Lenka ♫♪

Superdry are known for hosting the best fashion parties and this one was no exception.
This party was a little bit different, as it was a collaboration with Elite Models.
This party was to celebrate the final of the 'Model Look' competition to find the next fresh top model in the UK.

The event started off with a Superdry catwalk show featuring the models hoping to nab the modelling contract with Elite.

* (most) images courtesy of the Superdry team
For the first time ever at a catwalk show, I was blown away by the menswear collection. Just so sleek and so well put together.

Huge congratulations to models, Chris and Charlotte who won the overall competition and received a contract with Elite London.

After the show, we stayed for the party and got chatting to other attendees.
Oh, hi Proudlock!

We sipped on (too many) cocktails... but can you blame us? Look how pretty they are!

Many thanks to the Superdry team for inviting me down! I had a blast!
